The Truro Fire Department's Safety
House is a mobile trailer that simulates the environment in a
smoke-filled building. The trailer was purchased with funds raised
in the community.
This training vehicle is used to teach
children how to escape from a burning, smoky enclosure. This
safety demonstration targets children in the 5-10 age group.
Fire department members take the Safety House to Truro area schools where
the children are taught how to stay low to the floor and safely crawl
out of a smoke-filled room.
The Safety House is also prominently exhibited at other community
events—such as the annual Tomato Festival, the local 4th of July
celebration, and the Christmas on the Town event. The Fire Department will gladly make the Safety House
available at any special event in the community.
