Fire Inspections and Investigations

The Fire Prevention Bureau inspects more than 1000 commercial businesses a year in the township and City of Reynoldsburg. The bureau points out

Ohio Fire Code
violations to business owners, who then are responsible for correcting any unsafe conditions the bureau finds on their premises. One of every three inspections requires a follow-up visit.
The bureau also ensures that all private hydrants in the area are regularly inspected and in good working order. As well as regularly inspecting all the daycare centers, group homes and schools in the coverage at least three times a year.
In addition, Ohio regulations now require inspections of foster care homes for children, which the bureau performs annually.

Members of the Fire Prevention Bureau regularly attend seminars designed to increase their skills and knowledge of fire investigation procedures. Because of the rise in arson in the United States, these skills are very important in protecting the community.
The Truro Fire Department's Safety House is a mobile trailer that simulates the environment in a smoke-filled building. The trailer was purchased with funds raised in the community.
This training vehicle is used to teach children how to escape from a burning, smoky enclosure. This safety demonstration targets children in the 5-10 age group. Fire department members take the Safety House to Truro area schools where the children are taught how to stay low to the floor and safely crawl out of a smoke-filled room.
The Safety House is also prominently exhibited at other community events such as the annual Christmas on the Town. The Fire Department will gladly make the Safety House available at any special event in the community.
