Fire Department
Truro Township's Division of Fire provides fire fighting and emergency medical services to the City of Reynoldsburg, the Village of Brice, and Truro Township, an area 9.1 square miles in size in east central Franklin County with an approximate population of 38,000 residents.
The Department has 45 full-time fire fighters and paramedics. Full-time fire personnel work on a 24-hours-on and 48-hours-off shift. Thirteen people are assigned to each shift.
Chief, Steve Hein, was appointed in 2012. Battalion Chief Jeff Sharps serves as the administrative Battalion while Battalion Chiefs Allen Deaver, Andy Weber and Chancy Kimble serve as the Shift Battalions.
Truro Township Fire Department maintains mutual aid and automatic response agreements with area fire departments, such as
Columbus, West Licking, Jefferson Township, Violet Township, Madison Township, Mifflin Township, and Whitehall. These agreements allows each department in the area to receive additional help when needed.
The Truro Township Fire Department provides extensive training for its personnel, which is given during each of the three shifts. More than 2,000 hours of training were delivered during these shifts last year.
Firefighters' training covers new procedures along with continued emphasis on the basics, such as pulling hoses from the engine truck, putting up ladders, flowing water from the engine truck, advancing hose lines inside a building, and wearing and using air paks correctly.
Members of the department participate in education programs that the Ohio Fire Academy offers. These training programs are designed to help firefighters advance from lieutenant to fire chief.
